Biotype 1 — Pyroluria · Laboratory urine test
Pyroluria Test
Measures the level of kryptopyrroles (HPL) in urine — a standard blood count won't catch them. Urine collection at home, processing at a partner laboratory, results electronically within 2 – 4 weeks.
- Laboratory test with a simple at-home sample collection
- Analysis at a certified partner laboratory
- Results electronically within 2 – 4 weeks
- Suitable for: anxiety, poor stress tolerance, chronic fatigue
€99 including laboratory processing
Pyroluria is not a medical diagnosis, but a measurable metabolic irregularity — elevated kryptopyrrole levels in urine, which according to orthomolecular literature may be linked to a range of neurological and psychiatric difficulties. Mainstream medicine does not yet accept this concept as a standard diagnosis, but the test does objectively measure a specific biochemical value.

What the pyroluria test measures
What the test measures. Measures the concentration of pyrrole compounds (pyrroles) in urine. Pyrroles are a byproduct of hemoglobin — the red blood pigment. In pyroluria, pyrroles form in excess, bind to vitamin B6 and zinc, and are excreted in the urine. The result is a chronic deficiency of these nutrients, which disrupts the production of serotonin, dopamine, and GABA.
What it reveals. The test clearly confirms or rules out pyroluria. Standard blood tests will not show it — pyroluria can only be diagnosed through a urine test. A positive result may be one explanation for symptoms such as chronic fatigue or anxiety — always in combination with a doctor's clinical assessment.
Who the test is suitable for
People who feel stress wears them down faster than it does other people. Sensitive to noise, light, medications and supplements. They don't remember dreams and have never known why. Blood work comes back "normal".
Symptoms commonly associated with pyroluria:
If you're not sure whether pyroluria is your most likely biotype, you can first take the free orientational screening (4 – 6 minutes) — it will tell you which of the 5 biotypes best matches your symptoms, and whether this test makes the most sense as your first step. You can read more about the biotype itself on the Pyroluria — symptoms and path to a solution page.
How collection and evaluation work
How the sample is collected. Urine is collected at home — into a special brown tube with an included pipette and measuring cup. The sample is sent by post to a partner laboratory. You will receive results electronically within 2–4 weeks of sending the sample.
Contents of the test kit: 1× special brown tube with label and pipette · 1× urine measuring cup · 1× shipping container · 1× sample accompanying form · 1× warranty card · 1× shipping bag · detailed collection instructions.
- Order the test via the contact form — select "Pyroluria Test" and fill in your delivery details.
- We'll email you payment details and instructions for the sample collection.
- Once payment is received, we arrange for the collection kit to be sent from the partner laboratory.
- Collect the urine sample at home following the enclosed instructions and send it back by courier (at your own cost).
- You'll receive the result by email within 2 – 4 weeks of the sample arriving at the laboratory.
Preparation before collection significantly affects test accuracy — see the detailed guide How to prepare for the Pyroluria Test.
What the test reveals — and what it doesn't
The result shows whether the concentration of pyrrole compounds in the urine is elevated. A low result is also valuable information, as it narrows down which biotypes are worth investigating further.
The test is not a medical diagnosis. PsyLab is an intermediary for lab tests from certified European partners — always discuss the result with your treating physician, who alone can establish a diagnosis and recommend treatment.
Frequently asked questions about the pyroluria test
How exactly does the pyroluria test work?
The test is done from a urine sample, which you collect at home using a kit we send you. You then send the sample by post to a partner laboratory. You will receive results electronically within 2 – 4 weeks of the sample arriving at the laboratory.
How much does the pyroluria test cost?
The pyroluria test (urine) costs €99. The price includes the complete collection kit, processing at the partner laboratory, and electronic delivery of the result. Postage for sending the sample back to the laboratory is paid separately by the customer.
Will a standard blood test detect pyroluria?
No. Pyroluria does not show up in a standard blood count — serum zinc and vitamin B6 levels can look "normal" even while they are being chronically lost through the urine. Only a urine test aimed directly at pyrrole compounds can show their level.
What symptoms suggest I should get the test?
Typical signals are chronic anxiety or poor stress tolerance, poor dream recall, sensitivity to light and noise, social anxiety, and chronic fatigue — especially if your regular blood tests come back "normal" and you still don't feel well.
Is the test result a medical diagnosis?
No. PsyLab is an intermediary for lab tests, not a healthcare facility. The result is a laboratory measurement that should always be discussed with your doctor — only they can establish a diagnosis and treatment.
After a positive result
If the test confirms pyroluria, targeted nutritional support usually centers on Stress Support — a supplement combining zinc and active B6 (P5P), the nutrients the body loses in pyroluria. Exact dosing is handled in the Consultation with a Doctor / Therapist (€149).
