What the test measures. The analysis determines 20 relevant minerals and toxic metals in hair — zinc, copper, magnesium, selenium, as well as mercury, lead, cadmium, arsenic, and aluminum. Hair records long-term accumulation over the past 3 months.
Why hair and not blood. Blood tests capture only the current state — heavy metals are quickly deposited from blood into tissues. Hair is a far more sensitive marker of chronic burden, since it records exposure over entire months. Hair analysis has long been used in orthomolecular practice to track long-term metal exposure.
Who the test is suitable for
You used to live in a damp or moldy building. Everything got worse after an infection. Perfumes and cleaning products bother you. You have brain fog you never used to have. Or you're dealing with a child with ADHD or autism.
Symptoms commonly associated with toxic burden:
If you're not sure whether toxic burden is your most likely biotype, you can first take the free orientational screening (4 – 6 minutes). Read more about the biotype on the Heavy metals — symptoms and path to a solution page.
How to read the results
How to read the results. According to orthomolecular literature (Walsh, Pfeiffer), individual deviations in the mineral profile are loosely associated with certain biochemical patterns — for example, elevated copper is associated with a histapenia picture or lowered mood, elevated or lowered zinc with a pyroluric pattern, and a combination of elevated calcium and magnesium together with lowered sodium and potassium with a tendency toward hypoglycemia. These are indicative associations from the professional literature, not a diagnosis — results are always reviewed in a consultation, and any diagnosis is made exclusively by a physician.
How collection and evaluation work
How the sample is collected. A small hair sample (about 1 g) is cut close to the scalp — at home, with no needles. You seal the sample in the enclosed envelope and send it by post to the laboratory. The laboratory also performs a second confirmatory analysis for unexpected values. You will receive results within 2 weeks.
- Order the test via the contact form — select "Heavy Metal Analysis" and fill in your delivery details.
- We'll email you payment details and instructions for the sample collection.
- Once payment is received, we arrange for the collection kit to be sent from the partner laboratory.
- Cut a hair sample (about 1 g, close to the scalp) at home following the instructions and send it by post.
- You'll receive the result by email within 2 weeks of the sample arriving at the laboratory.
A consultation before detoxification is essential — releasing metals without supporting metallothionein and glutathione can significantly worsen symptoms.
Frequently asked questions about the heavy metal analysis
How exactly does the heavy metal analysis work?
The test is done from a hair sample (about 1 g, cut close to the scalp), which you send by post to a partner laboratory. You will receive results electronically within 2 weeks of the sample arriving.
How much does the heavy metal analysis cost?
The hair analysis for heavy metals and minerals costs €199. The price includes processing at the partner laboratory (including a second confirmatory analysis for unexpected values) and electronic delivery of the result.
Why hair and not blood?
Blood tests capture only the current state — heavy metals are quickly deposited from blood into tissues. Hair records long-term accumulation over roughly the last 3 months, making it a far more sensitive marker of chronic toxic burden.
What symptoms suggest I should get the test?
Typical signals are brain fog, memory problems, chemical sensitivity (to perfumes, cleaning products), and unexplained fatigue — especially if you've lived in a damp or moldy building, or if you're dealing with a child with ADHD or autism.
Is the test result a medical diagnosis?
No. PsyLab is an intermediary for lab tests, not a healthcare facility. The result is a laboratory measurement that should always be discussed with your doctor — only they can establish a diagnosis and treatment. We strongly recommend a consultation before any detoxification — releasing metals without support is risky.
After a positive result
With confirmed heavy metal burden, the common next step is Stress Support — support for the body's detoxification pathways. The exact approach and any further support are handled in the Consultation with a Doctor / Therapist (€149).
