Thyroid Test (T3/T4)
Measures the hormones T3 and T4 in 24-hour urine and their ratio — can complement the picture when you have classic symptoms of underactive thyroid function, yet standard blood TSH/T4 comes back "within normal range".
- Sample: urine (24-hour collection, at home)
- Result: electronically, 2 – 4 weeks
- Suitable for: chronic fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, hair loss
€149 including laboratory processing
📄 View a sample result (PDF)What the test measures
What the test measures. Levels of the thyroid hormones T3 (triiodothyronine) and T4 (thyroxine) in 24-hour urine, including the T4/T3 ratio, which shows how efficiently the body converts inactive T4 into active T3.
Subclinical hypothyroidism. A condition in which a person has classic symptoms of underactive thyroid function (chronic fatigue, weight gain despite diet, poor concentration, dry skin, cold sensitivity, depression, hair loss), but standard TSH/T4 blood tests show results "within normal range." This phenomenon is now understood to be considerably more common than previously thought.
Who the test is suitable for
Why 24-hour urine and not blood. T3 and T4 levels in 24-hour urine correlate better with a client's actual symptoms — especially in the early stage of hypothyroidism, when blood TSH values are still within the reference range. Blood shows only a momentary snapshot; urine shows a 24-hour average.
T4/T3 ratio. The test also reveals conversion disorders — when the body produces enough T4 but does not efficiently convert it to active T3. Stress, starvation, chronic inflammation, and certain liver conditions can disrupt this process.
If you don't know which of the 5 main biotypes of the orthomolecular approach (or this complementary test) matches your symptoms, you can first take the free orientational screening (4 – 6 minutes).
How collection and evaluation work
How the sample is collected. The test is done entirely at home: you collect urine over 24 hours into the provided container and send the sample by post to a partner laboratory. You will receive the result electronically within 2–4 weeks.
- Order the test via the contact form — select "Thyroid Test" and fill in your delivery details.
- We'll email you payment details and instructions for the 24-hour collection.
- Once payment is received, we arrange for the collection container to be sent from the partner laboratory.
- Collect urine at home over 24 hours following the enclosed instructions and send it back by courier.
- You'll receive the result by email within 2 – 4 weeks of the sample arriving at the laboratory.
What the test reveals — and what it doesn't
The result shows T3 and T4 levels in 24-hour urine, including their ratio — information that standard blood TSH/T4 will not capture in the early stage of subclinical hypothyroidism. It is a complementary tool, not a replacement for a standard endocrinology work-up.
The test is not a medical diagnosis. PsyLab is an intermediary for lab tests from certified European partners — always discuss the result with your treating physician, who alone can establish a diagnosis and recommend treatment. Clinically confirmed hypothyroidism treatment must never be replaced on your own initiative.
Frequently asked questions about the thyroid test
How exactly does the thyroid test work?
The test is done from a 24-hour urine collection, which you collect at home into the provided container. You then send the sample by post to a partner laboratory. You will receive the result electronically within 2 – 4 weeks.
How much does the thyroid test cost?
The thyroid test (T3/T4 from 24-hour urine) costs €149. The price includes the collection container, processing at the partner laboratory, and electronic delivery of the result.
What is subclinical hypothyroidism, and why do standard tests miss it?
It is a condition in which a person has classic symptoms of underactive thyroid function (fatigue, weight gain, cold sensitivity, hair loss), but standard TSH/T4 blood tests show results "within normal range." T3 and T4 levels in 24-hour urine correlate better with actual symptoms, especially in the early stage, when TSH is still within the reference range.
What does the T4/T3 ratio the test also measures mean?
The T4/T3 ratio shows how efficiently the body converts the inactive hormone T4 into active T3. This conversion can be disrupted by stress, starvation, chronic inflammation, or certain liver conditions — even when the body produces enough T4.
Is the test result a medical diagnosis?
No. PsyLab is an intermediary for lab tests, not a healthcare facility. The result is a laboratory measurement that should always be discussed with your doctor — only they can establish a diagnosis and treatment.
After a positive result
With confirmed subclinical hypothyroidism, the common next step is Thyroid Complex. The exact dosing is always set by a doctor or therapist based on the result.
